Qingdao Institute of Aviation Technology (QIAT), Qingdao Research Center for the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, CAS, was jointly built by Qingdao, West Coast New Area and Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is located in the core area of Guzhenkou, Qingdao military-civilian integration innovation demonstration area, which is named among the first batch of such demonstration areas in China. It is a directly-affiliated institution of West Coast New Area, mainly engaged in the design, technology development, product development, test and test services of military and civil light aero-turbojet engines and gas turbines, high-end intelligent unmanned aircrafts, as well as the airworthiness technology research of civil aviation engines. At present, it has the first 20,000 meter high-altitude light-duty aero-engines system and engine components test-bed in China, undertakes many projects such as National Aero Engine and Gas Turbine Special Grants for research and services, and carries out aeroengine high-altitude test tasks for the society.
Based on the fruitful cooperation and achievements in the early stage, the Municipality of Qingdao, the West Coast New Area and the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences decide to expand cooperation and start the second phase construction of the institute. It will focus on the construction of high-level R&D platforms such as aeroengine high-altitude test base and Unmand Aircraft System General Division, Chinese Academy of Sciences, strive to form the R&D and system integration capabilities of key technologies of light aeroengines and high-end intelligent UAVs, and build a world-class aviation technology industry innovation base.
