The Institute strengthened the establishment of key laboratories in 2008. A proposal by the Institute for establishing the key Laboratory of Advanced Energy and Power in the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully passed the examination and verification by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in January 2008. It is the first key laboratory in the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Institute. Another proposal jointly by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics and the Institute of Electrical Engineering for establishing the key Wind Energy Laboratory in the Chinese Academy of Sciences passed the examination for constructive applications by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in November 2008.
