Faculty, staffs and all graduate students:

You are cordially invited to attend an academic seminar in the Auditorium on Wednesday

(Graduate students, please be noted that you must sign for this seminar as one of the required referred credits for a graduate student.)

  Reporter: Dr. Marco P. Schoen

Mechanical Engineering, Idaho State University (ISU), USA

  Time: 14:00-16:00, September 23, 2009

Title: Research on Hybrid Algorithms of Intelligent Systems at ISU

Location: Auditorium, Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Abstract Intelligent systems have become of great interest in the engineering community. The possibility to solve highly constraint problems of large dimensions with multiple modes is an attractive proposition to many subject areas in engineering where optimization plays a role. The seminar will look at some of the research conducted at Idaho State University with regard to intelligent systems and its application to various engineering problems. Among the applications discussed are hybrid intelligent systems, Genetic Algorithm (GA) selection mechanisms, Particle Swarm (PSO) social network weighting, hybridization of Tabu Search (TS) with GA, intelligent systems applied to estimation and system identification, and intelligent systems based controller design.

  Dr. Marco P. Schoen’s Resume

Marco P. Schoen, Ph.D., PE is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Idaho State University (ISU). He is serving as the associate director for the Measurement and Control Engineering Research Center (MCERC), graduate program director for Mechanical Engineering as well as for an interdisciplinary program in Measurement and Control Engineering. Dr. Schoen has been active with ASME serving as the past chair of the Technical Committee on Model Identification and Intelligent Systems (MIIS) and as an editorial and program committee member for the ASME Dynamical Systems and Control (DSC) Conference. He also serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control. His research deals with adaptive control, intelligent control and systems for aerospace and biomedical engineering related issues.
