Research Fields and Orientations

Research fields: R&D and application of CFB technology with multiple fuels (i.e. coal and biomass) for efficient clean combustion, pyrolysis gasification conversion, and comprehensive energy conservation and emission reduction.

Focus: Supercritical CFB boiler technology, CFB boiler technology for high efficiency and low emissions, CFB coal gasification technology, pyrolysis and combustion technology, powered coal combustion technology for high efficiency and low emissions; multiphase flow reaction, measurement and numerical simulation; combustion chemistry and diagnosis technology.

Scientific research instruments and equipment

There are nearly 20 sets of mid/large-size cold/hot experimental platforms in the facility’s 2400m2, including3 sets of 20000-40000m3/h CFB cold modeling systems, 4 sets of 0.3MW-0.5MW-1MW-2MW CFB combustion experimental platforms with multifunction, a 1 MW CFB oxy-fuel combustion pilot plant, a 1t/d coal low-pyrolysis & semi-coke combustion experimental platform, and 3 sets of 0.4t/d-2t/h-5t/h CFB gasification experimental platforms. In addition, there are more than 30 sets of advanced testing and analysis instruments, including 3 sets of GASMET DX4000, a thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry-infrared combination instrument, an ACECT-2000, a MTS-LU-16-1000, a MDV-S1, and an Agilent GC 7890B, etc.

Major Achievements of 2014

Through cold experiments and numerical simulation of supercritical CFB with annular furnace, the optimal furnace structure was determined; through hot experiments with semi-coke/coal in MW CFB platform, the characteristics of combustion and emission of pyrolysis of semi-coke were obtained; SO2/NOx emission technology was proved in a 300t/h CFB boiler.

The 1MW CFB Oxy-fuel Combustion Pilot Plant was established and commissioned with a maximum thermal power of 1.2 MW and maximum oxygen concentration of 50%.

The first 40000 Nm³/h CFB coal gasifer of industrial fuel gas in China was put into commercial operation, which has been in operation for more than 1800 hours with low calorific values over 1450kcal/Nm3. This is the largest capacity in China at this point.

A 240t/d pulverized coal pyrolysis pilot plant with solid heat carrier was established, commissioned, and some experiments have been conducted, representing a breakthrough in the overall technological process.

Through a series of experiments in a 5t/d pilot platform, the combustion characteristics of residual carbon in CFB were obtained with combustion efficiency over 99%.

A 200kW hot experiment device capable of combusting pulverized coal with low volatile content was installed.
