By the end of 2016, there were a total 496 employees in the institute, including 466 professional faculty members, 48 with senior professional titles and 99 with associate professional ones. The employee average age at the institute is 36.6, 36 and 39.2 for the professional faculty and administrative staff, respectively. Among the professional faculty, 64% have doctoral degrees and 28% have master’s degrees.

In order to meet the development needs of both the organizations and employees, the institute has continuously strengthened its human resource network. In a measured and standardized way, it has formulated and revised a number of related rules and regulations. For example, to strengthen the talent team, the institute has formulated the “Introduction of High-Level Personnel Management Approach”. To enhance the innovation ability of the scientific research team, and to evaluate the performance and contribution of departments and individuals, the institute has revised the “Department and Employee Annual Appraisal Method”. In accordance with the requirements of the revision, the institute has also amended the related regulations of Continuing Education and Training Management. The definitive responsibilities and authorizations of administration departments have been updated. In order to advance the service mode and standardize the management of scientific research projects, “The Management Method of Scientific Financial Assistant Position” was created. In addition, “The Health Care Benefits Management Approach” was also revised to meet the employs’ need of medical and health care.

According to the institute development orientation and the human resource planning, we have enhanced the recruitment process with significant emphasis on the applicants’ quality and capability. In 2016, the institute recruited 47 new employees, 59% have doctorates and 39% have master's degrees. In respect of high-level talent introduction, we have employed 2 faculty members from CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program, 1 distinguished professor with special-appointment. In 2016, totally 62 employees got promotion, 1 professor won “The Young Scientist Award of CAS”, 4 professors won the membership and 1 Excellent Membership of “The Youth Innovation Promotion Association”.

The institute has attached significant emphasis to talent cultivation. With employees’ development need as the priority, the institute has made great efforts to provide different platforms for employees’ career development. In cadre training, new staff training, quality management, secrecy education, specialized knowledge and skills, as well as security etc. In addition, we also organized scientific conferences and seminars, including lectures by reputable professors, youth academic symposium and postdoctoral forum etc. The training programs and academic activities covered a wide variety of themes and have benefited the long term development of both employees and the institute.

In August 2016, the institute hosted the 9th annual meeting of the “Wu Zhonghua Award Fund Accreditation Council”. Chen Qun from Tsinghua University, Liu Qibin from IET, and Qu Zhiguo from Xi’an Jiaotong University won the “Wu Zhonghua Young Scholarship”, and 12 postgraduate students won the “Wu Zhonghua Excellent Student Award”, they were from IET, Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Beijing University of Technology, University of Science and Technology of China and Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry CAS. The award presentation ceremony was held in September, Professors Qi Fei and Wang Xiaodong were invited to give lectures.
