At the invitation of Prof. Jian Su from Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute – Graduate School and Research in Engineering (COPPE) of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Prof. Chaoqun Nie and associate professor Shaojuan Geng of IET went to Brazil to conduct an academic communication from April 19th to 28th, 2012, which contributes to the international cooperation between the two institutes.

Prof. Chaoqun Nie gave a lecture on April 20th, including three parts: 1) an introduction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; 2) the current research situation, major directions of IET in the fields of energy system, power generation and energy saving and emission reduction, especially advanced directions of IET; 3) the recent achievements of Prof. Chaoqun Nie’s team in the subject of axial compressor. Then Prof. Chaoqun Nie exchanged opinions with the present professors and students on the above three aspects. This academic communication deepens the cooperation of the two institutes, and proposes the cooperation frame in the future.

A student of Prof. Jian Su came to Prof. Chaoqun Nie’s team for joint study and research work from February to March this year, because Prof. Chaoqun Nie’s team has great academic influence and research ability in the field of numerical simulation of compressor internal flow.

Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro is one of the largest universities, and its predecessor was Royal Military Academy founded in 1792. COPPE is the largest graduate school in Latin America, which has twelve engineering related departments, four interdisciplinary majors, the largest engineering experimental facilities in Brazil, and 116 laboratories in total. It has broad research cooperation relationship with many state-owned and private companies and social organizations, and it has cultivated a large number of engineers.
