The paper “Scale-up of ECT Sensor for Imaging Pharmaceutical Fluidized Beds and Validation by CFD”, co-authored by Prof. Haigang Wang from our institute and Prof. Wuqiang Yang from University of Manchester (U.K.), has been published in the journal of Measurement Science and Technology(MST), No. 10, 2011, and it was also selected as the front cover paper of this issue. This paper states the research progress of multiphase flow measurement techniques offluidized bed, and was presented on the 6thWorld Congress on Industrial Process Tomography (WCIPT6). MST is published by Institute of Physics of U.K. (IOP), and it is a famous international journal in the field of multiphase flow measurement and modern testing technology, which covers all aspects of the theory, practice and application of measurement and sensor technology across the sciences. MST is a journal with twelve issues per year, and its international impact factor is 1.35.

The multiphase flow measurement techniques offluidized bed mainly aim at the measurement and numerical computation of the solid-gas two phase flows during the drying process of fluidized bed in pharmaceuticals industry.  Prof. Haigang Wang’ paper has been given a high appraisal by the editor-in-chief of MST:

“This is an interesting paper describing the practical application of ECT to solve an actual industrial need. There are relatively few articles addressing the actual use or the technique to tackle real-life problems and thus the paper makes a valuable contribution.” “The analysis is very interesting and a good contribution to the literature”.

Prof. Haigang Wang has been doing an in-depth research in this field, and this is the second time for him to have his work on the cover of MST. The first time was in last year (2010, Meas. Sci. Technol., 21, 042001). His some other research achievements have been published on AIChE Journal (Vol. 52, 3078-3087; Vol. 54, 427-444),Chemical Engineering Science (Vol. 62, 1524-1535; Vol. 64, 2893-2902) and Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research ( Vol. 50, 3517-3523). And his research work is supported by Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of U.K., National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Hundred Talents Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
