At the invitation of Prof. Feng Lin, Prof. Schoen, Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Idaho State University, visited IET on March 30th, 2012, and gave a lecture titled “Advances in System Identification for Modeling, Control, and Measurement”. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Haisheng Chen and Prof. Feng Lin.

At the beginning of the report, Prof. Haisheng Chen gave an introduction of Prof. Schoen. Prof. Schoen is Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and associate director of the Measurement and Control Engineering Research Center (MCERC). He used to be a visiting scholar in Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the chairman of the model system and smart technology committee of ASME. Prof. Schoen introduced the basic knowledge of model system and the main cooperation work with IET. The presentation included two parts. The first was about model structure and mathematical theory fundamental in the modeling of multi-scale physical system. The second part summarized some frequent met problems in the system modeling process. In order to helping students understanding the presentation, Prof. Feng LIN made a brief summary about the lecture.

This academic lecture not only broadens the knowledge of students but also provides new ideas for solving the problems in the research work.
