March 1 was IET’s 55th anniversary for institute building. The celebration assembly was held at the institute’s lecture hall and presided over by Secretary Ping Zhang.
Guests from High Technology Bureau of CAS, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Tsinghua University, AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co., Ltd, Electrician Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences gave eulogies respectively, they extended warm greeting to the 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of IET! And they gave full recognition for a series of significant achievements and contributions which IET made for national economic and social development in the past decades.
Total up to 180 people attended the celebration, including honored guests
from relevant functional departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, National Development and Reform Commission, National Natural Science Foundation of China and CAS of Beijing, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Technology and other universities, related research institutes, CCTV, People's Daily and other media, more than 80 cooperative local governments and enterprises; and active staff, retired workers, graduate representative of IET. More than 30 units of CAS agencies, related research institutes, universities, cooperative local governments and enterprises sent congratulatory letters /messages. Secretary Ping Zhang, on behalf of IET, welcomed leaders and guests attending this celebration warmly. Meanwhile, he expressed sincere thanks to all walks of life for their care and support of the development of institute ever since a long time ago!
With the solemn national anthem, the celebration began. Director Qin made a keynote in which he reviewed the institute’s development progress of the past 55 years and introduced the institute’s researches and outstanding contribution which solved important scientific problem and met the country’s need since the building of the institute.
IET’s predecessor was Power Lab of CAS founded in 1956. The institute had become a strategic high-tech institute whose basic research and high-tech R&D combined together in the areas of energy, power and environment. It had established a unique international status and domestic dominance in the four pillar directions, IGCC / Polygeneration, CFB, Distributed Energy & Renewable Energy and Gas Turbine, and the two key directions, Green House Control and High-intensity Heat Exchange. It also had the ability to master the core technology and format significant innovation and system integration solutions of which it had intellectual property.
In the past 55 years, the institute carried out systematic studies in the areas of engineering thermodynamics, air flow, thermodynamics, combustion and heat and mass transfer on the basic of theory of three-dimensional flow turbomachinery. It solved a series of major scientific issues and trained professional talented person to promote the development of Chinese Engineering Thermophysics. It focused on international cooperation and exchanges and established a good academic reputation and prestige. It also emphasis on strategic plan and research and made outstanding contribution for our country’s tech research in the energy, power and environment areas. It wrote a magnificent page on history of Chinese scientific development with pioneering and innovative spirit and fruitful achievements.
After the celebration, the institute arranged activities such as visiting the labs and symposiums. Academician Zengyuan Guo, Tsinghua University, Professor Qiang Liao, Engineering Thermal Physics Institute of Chongqing University and Professor Jinliang Xu, North China Electric Power University, were invited to make excellent symposiums.
