Dr. ZHANG Na from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics under Chinese Academy of Sciences (IET, CAS) received a Society Award of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) during the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition held on November 12-18, 2010.
With her outstanding paper “Use of Low/Mid-Temperature Solar Heat for Thermo-chemical Upgrading of Energy, with Application to A Novel Chemically-Recuperated Gas-Turbine Power Generation System”, ZHANG got the Edward F. Obert Award of ASME, becoming the youngest and the only female Asian recipient of this year. It was also the first time that the award was issued to a Chinese scholar.
Zhang was also invited to join the membership of ASME together with IET’s another researcher Chen JIngyi during the congress.
The Edward F. Obert Award, established in 1987 as a division award and elevated to a society award of ASME in 1995, is set to recognize outstanding papers on thermodynamics.
ASME, founded in 1880, is a non-profit international institution of 120,000 members from over 140 countries. It aims to promote the art, science & practice of mechanical & multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. So far, it has published more than 20 international journals including Journal of Heat Transfer and Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power.
