October 8th-10th, the 2010 heat transfer and mass transfer conference of Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophsics, also the communication conference of NNSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) in the field of heat transfer, were successfully held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This conference was sponsored by Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophsics and organized by the school of mechanical engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. About 600 researchers attended this conference. Representatives from Heat Transfer and Mass Transfer Research Centre of IET also took part in the meeting. Qiu Lin, who is the student supervised by Research Fellow Tang Dawei, was awarded the excellent exhibition prize.

The meeting involves many fields, such as heat conduction, heat convection, porous medium heat and mass transfer, radiation, micro scale heat transfer, biological heat exchange, measurement and display technology, numerical simulation and industrial heat exchanger, etc. Meanwhile, the NNSFC communication conference in the field of heat transfer was in progress. The NNSFC program communication and academic report mainly adopted the means of oral presentation and exhibition. Compared with only oral presentation, this kind of means has better effect.

Four experts were invited to give special speech, including “the other half of thermodynamics” from Guo Zengyuan (Tsing Hua University), “Progress and Contribution of heat transfer for the development of ultra high temperature industrial gas turbines” from Kenichiro Takeishi (Osaca University of Japan), “the fund and its management of NNSF in the engineering thermophysics discipline” from Liu Tao (NNSFC), “infrared radiation and its application” from Tan Heping (Harbin institute of technology). In addition, there were also wonderful reports in branch meetings.

Attendees visited the refrigeration and low temperature laboratory of Shanghai Jiao Tong University during the conference. The next heat transfer annual conference will be held in Xi'an.
