IET Researchers Attend the 6th World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography
Author:Text by Wang Haigang and Sun Yanfang | Print | Close | Text Size: A A A

September 6th-9th, the 6th World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography was held at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. There were nearly 200 representatives from 20 countries at the congress. Director Zhang Zhaotian and Section Chief Xiong Xiaoyun of the Department of Information, Natural Science Foundation, attended the congress. Researcher Wang Haigang of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IET) was invited to make an exchange report.

Researcher Wang Haigang gave a report about the application of the CFB (circulating fluid bed) Process Tomography in the medical research and industry. He briefly described the background and significance of the study, mainly introduced the applied process, especially the key issue existing in the scale amplifying process and comprehensively showed the institute’s scientific achievements on the CFB (circulating fluid bed) Process Tomography. The report greatly inspired representatives’ interest. Doctor Wang Haigang deeply discussed and exchanged with the experts and scholars on the key issue and future trend of the scale amplification.

The objective of the congress is to promote and strengthen the cooperation of the scientists around the whole world in the field of industrial process tomography and multiphase flow measurement, exploring the future direction of development. Professor Lynn Gladden, who is Academician of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Academician of the Royal Academy of Chemistry, and the former president of the University of Cambridge, the Senior Researcher Xie Chenggang from Schlumberger Company and Professor Wang Huaxiang from the Automation College of Tianjin University made an excellent special report about the industrial process tomography and the multiphase flow measurement respectively. Representatives discussed the traditional tomography technology as well as some applied research results related to flow, transport, reactions and distribution of visualization measurement theory and detection of industrial process visualization.

It is reported that the WCIPT was founded and proposed by UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), and is held every 3 years. So far, it has been successfully held five times at Britain, Germany, Canada, Japan and Norway. The next congress will be held at Poland in 2013.
