The 7th National Nature Science Funds Committee (NSFC) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) bilateral workshop was held in Beijing on August 30-31. The main topic was the energy recycling technology of waste and exhaust heat. The workshop was organized by the Heat and Mass Transfer Centre of IET. Tang Dawei from this centre served as the president of Chinese side.

NSFC Vice President He Minghong and JST Executive Director Akira Takamatsu took part in the meeting, other attendees included Chang Qing and Zhang Yinglan from International Cooperation Bureau of NSFC, Li Ming and Liu Tao from Department of Engineering Materials Science of NSFC, Yasuji Watanabe and Toshitaka Amano from JST Beijing office. After the opening ceremony, Professor Ma Chongfang from Beijing University of Technology and Professor Haramura Yoshihiko gave topic presentations respectively. More than 20 scientists from China and Japan attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the scientists from both countries communicated about Stirling engine using waste heat; Gas power generation using woody biomass fuel; Cogeneration; Hydrogen processing from waste and Optimal engineering for energy supply. Tang Dawei made a presentation titled ‘the critical technique of stirling engine using exhaust heat’. The attendees also visited the Mass & Heat Transfer Centre of IET, including 10KW stirling engine using exhaust heat, high temperature heat pipe, micro capillary groove technology and high intensity heat transfer labs.

This workshop promoted the communication and friendship between Chinese and Japanese scientists. NSFC and JST will put forward several research programs on energy recycling technology according to the communication and provide funding support for them.
