From August 8th to 13th, the 14th International Heat Transfer Conference was held at Washington, D.C. in the United States. Researchers of our institute, Huai Xiulan, Qu Wei, Yuan Dazhong and some graduates attended the conference. The IHTC-14 was jointly hosted by the ASME, the AIChE, and the CSME, organized by the Begell House, the ONR and the AIAA. The conference is the Olympics of Heat Transfer, which has been held every 4 years since 1951.

The IHTC-14 provided nearly 40 thematic reports and 850 report shows, attracting heat transfer scholars from 50 countries and regions. There were 9 panel sessions and 2 open forums about the new heat transfer technologies and their applications. The papers focused on the basic issues of the heat transfer phenomena in the latest and traditional heat transfer applications, including the heat transfer issues in the fields of the Biological systems, information systems, MEMS, nano-materials, renewable sustainable energy, energy conversion systems, etc. On the conference, Academy Tao Wenquan from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Professor Wang Ruzhu from Shanghai Jiaotong University made a wonderful keynote on the related research respectively. Nearly 10 sorts of magazines in the area of heat and mass transfer were exhibited in the conference, such as the “Heat Pipe Science and Technology ", an International Journal about the heat pipe. Some heat transfer products from North American enterprises were also displayed during the conference. In addition, participants were arranged to visit the labs in the University of Maryland and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Researchers from our institute, Huai Xiulan, Qu Wei, Yuan Dazhong, Liu Dengying and Wu Bangxian, reported 5 papers in forms of exhibition and presentation and then exchanged ideas with the domestic and foreign scholars.

The Chinese in America Thermal Engineering Association (CATEA) organized a dinner during the conference. About 80 Chinese at home and abroad were invited. They announced recent honors by Chinese abroad. For example, Professor Gang Chen, the Director of the Micro-Nano-Engineering lab in MIT, was selected as this year's U.S. National Academy of Engineering (Feb.17, 2010) because of his outstanding contribution to the fields of nano-scale heat transfer and thermal conversion. Besides, they announced the situation of the IHTC to be held in Beijing in 2018.

It is reported that the next conference (August, 2014) and the next after next (2018) will be held in Kyoto, Japan and Beijing, China respectively.
