After running for more than one year, the 690t/h(200MW)super-high pressure reheat circulating fluidized bed boiler developed by our institute was recently approved by the Electricity Federation of China (EFC) and the Machinery Industry Federation of China (MIFC).

With the support of the National 10th five year key technology R&D program “the technological and demonstrative project of 200MWe class circulating fluidized bed boiler”, Shanghai Boiler Works Limited Company designed and manufactured the super-high pressure reheat CFB with the technology owned by our institute. Shenhua Yili Energy Limited Company installed it in inner Mongolia. It’s the first 690t/h(200MW)super-high pressure reheat CFB without an external heat exchanger in China. The Institute of Engineering Thermophysics owns the intellectual property rights to this design.

The boiler has being running in a good condition since it was put into commercial use one year ago. We have one record that the machine operated continuously for 201 days as planned. The test result of performance shows that every performance index reaches or even exceeds the design requirement and the concentration of emissions such as NOX and SO2 meets the requirements of national standards. Many undisclosed innovative technologies are used in this boiler design.

On January 20th, 2010, EFC and MIFC co-sponsored the appraisal meeting of scientific and technological achievements. The Academicians Cheng-kang Wu and Yu-kun Qin were assigned as directors of the appraisal committee. Wei Qin, the director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, attended the meeting and gave an introductory speech. Twelve experts listened to: 1) the report of technology by Researcher Qin-gang Lv, 2) the report about the application of the boiler by customer representatives, and 3) the report about the performance test. After the examination of the technology material and after discussion, all experts thought that the performance of the boiler achieved an international advanced level. They approved the technology achievement of 690t/h super-high pressure reheat CFB, and suggested that the technology should be applied to the circulating fluidized bed boiler with greater capacity.

The success of developing the 690t/h(200MW)super-high pressure reheat CFB is another important milestone after the achievement of inventing the 480t/h (150MW) class CFB. It inspires researchers to achieve the next goal—developing the technology of supercritical CFB.
