By September 2014, the number of postgraduate students reached 231, including 99 doctoral students and 132 masters. In 2014, under the support of the summer camp program of UCAS, our institute successfully organized the "Power, Energy, and Environment–Approach to IET"summer camp, which opened new means for enrollment/recruitment. The quality of student resources for 2015 was improved greatly. In concrete terms, 80% of doctor’s degree candidates were master-doctor combined students and recommended students, and 65% of master’s degree candidates were recommended students. 40% of students came from 985 Project universities and 90% of students came from 211 Project universities.

In 2014, our institute continued to carry forward reform for the meritocratic system of scholarship and assistantship in accordance with the unified arrangement of UCAS, and selected winners of the " Excellent Student of UCAS", "President Award", "Zhuli Yuehua Excellent PhD Award", "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation of Academy"and various other title awards. Our institute continued to host the selection for the "Annual Scholarship", in which the candidates were recommended by labs/centers, with winners accounting for 60% of the students. Besides, we also continued to implement and constantly improved the uniform "assessment for successive master-doctor program"and "mid-term assessment for doctoral students"in our institute, and inspected the academic dissertations of all the students via our "inspection system of academic dissertation and academically dishonorable behavior", so as to further improve the cultivation quality of the postgraduates.

The number of graduates in 2014 reached 70, including 33 graduates with doctoral degrees and 33 with master’s degrees. The employment rate of the graduates was maintained at 100%, with major employers being: R&D institutions accounting for 33%, enterprises and public institutions accounting for 39%, higher education institutions accounting for 12%, further studying, going abroad, and others accounting for 16%.

In 2014, the postgraduates of the institute performed well in various types of evaluations and won many honors. LI Sheng’s doctoral dissertation "The mechanism of minimal energy penalty for CO2 capture and the study on coal-based polygeneration system for cogenerating substitute natural gas and power"won the award of "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation of the Academy". His advisor, Academician JIN Hongguang, won the award of "Outstanding graduate student advisor". PENG Shuo and XIN Fang won the "CAS President’s Award", 10 students of YANG Zheng et al. won the "National Scholarship", WANG Yongsheng and LI Xingxing won the "American Superconductor Scholarship", OUYANG Ziqu won the " Zhuli Yuehua Excellent PhD Award", CHENG Qiang won the "China Sciences Group Environmental Protection Scholarship", 42 postgraduates won the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences "Excellent Student Award,"and 95 postgraduates won the "Annual Scholarship for Postgraduates in the Institute". In June 2014, SUN Fangyuan won the first prize of excellent thesis in the "Academic Activity Month—Energy and Sustainable Development Forum of IET".

Graduation commencement
