Langfang Center for Energy and Power Engineering (Langfang Base)

Significance of the Base

　　The Langfang Base is a constructive project to provide a modern scientific research and experimental base for basic and high-tech research and development in such fields as energy, power, and environmental science in the country, to create an institute at an internationally leading level, to solve cutting-edge problems in engineering thermophysics, to develop new and cross-disciplines, and to provide an important measure to such necessary supports as efforts to contribute to sustainable developments in national economic construction and human communities.

　　Upon the completion, the Langfang Base will provide public with R&D platforms, the intermediate experimental sites and high-quality supportive technical services for the future scientific research projects for technological innovations in advanced energy in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and for the experiments, intermediate testing and academic exchanges among the institutes on the base.

　　After put into services, the Langfang base will be able to attract talented people at home and abroad, to cultivate new disciplinary growing pointsat the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, and to assume more basic, prospective and strategic major projects closely related to national economic and social development so that the international academic status of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics in such field as energy, power, and environment will be further improved.

General information of the research projects

　　The Langfang Base covers an area of 33,333 square meters witheight planned major buildings with a total constructive area of about 46,810 square meters (inclusively, 5732 square meters are underground basements), a total grounded constructive area of about 10,965 square meters, a building density of 34%, a floor area ratio of 1.4, and 32% green coverage.

　　On October 18, 2008, the foundation laying ceremony for the project of the Langfang Base was held. On November 3, 2008, the construction of the Langfang Base was started. The framing of the four started buildings had been completed by the end of last year. As expected,the four started buildings were completed in June 2009 and the installations of experimental equipmentshave been started.

　　As instructed by Vice President Erwei Shi, the adjusted and newly added integrated laboratory building has been under the design. As scheduled, in December 2009, the construction will be completed and the installations of experimental equipments will be started.
