Author: Caichen Wang | Print | Close | Text Size: A A A | 2009-09-29

On September 22 to 25, 2009, an International Workshop on Intelligent Systems and Adaptive Control in Energy Systems was successfully co-organized by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Idaho State University (ISU), U.S. at the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics. Research Professor Feng Lin of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics and Professor Marco P. Schoen in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the Idaho State University jointly presided the workshop. Research Professor Chaoqun Nie and other researchers in the Key Laboratory of Advanced Energy and Power attended the workshop.

During the workshop, Professor Marco P. Schoen visited a vertical three-stage compressor bench, a horizontal single-stage compressor bench and a wind tunnel for cascade test in the Laboratory of Advanced Energy and Power, and gave talks entitled Intelligent Systems and Adaptive Control, and Research on Hybrid Algorithms of Intelligent Systems at ISU. Professor Feng Lin gave a talk on applications of intelligent systems and adaptive control to design and optimization of compressors. During the workshop, the two sides discussed scientific issues of common interest, and ultimately reached a cooperation agreement on applications of DSP adaptive control to stability control of compressors.

Resume of Dr. Marco P. Schoen

Marco P. Schoen, Ph.D., P.E. is currently a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the Idaho State University (ISU). He is serving as the associate director for the Measurement and Control Engineering Research Center (MCERC), graduate program director for Mechanical Engineering as well as for an interdisciplinary program in Measurement and Control Engineering. Dr. Schoen has been active with ASME serving as the past chair of the Technical Committee on Model Identification and Intelligent Systems (MIIS) and as an editorial and program committee member for the ASME Dynamical Systems and Control (DSC) Conference. He also serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control. His research deals with adaptive control, intelligent control and systems for aerospace and biomedical engineering related issues.
