Projects and Major Achievements

1. Development of a certain type industrial gas turbine.

Overall performance, general structure, control system design and detailed engineering design of the certain type industrial gas turbine were completed. And completed the part of the core flow components of preliminary trial process review and cost analysis. The design and process evaluation of the single-head and three-head test pieces of the single-head and three-head of high-load transonic compressor and high-efficiency annular combustion chamber were completed, and the cold test of high-efficiency turbine blades was completed.

2. Basic research direction

(1) Research in compressor: The effect of the casing treatment on the type and characteristic of the compressor stall and the effect of the inlet spray on the stability of the casing were completed. Based on the established LES/RANS hybrid method, a numerical simulation platform is used to study the flow entropy production and loss distribution characteristics of low-speed straight blade and compressor. The numerical and experimental research in the high load cascade kangda jet control, the high load oblique flow compressor casing processing and integration of compressor design research, and the development of the micro plasma high frequency pressure sensor were carried out.

(2) Research in turbine: The mechanism investigation on flow and heat transfer of high performance shaped holes were performed based on flat plate experiments, and the effects of blowing ratio on film cooling effectiveness of rectangular diffusion holes were revealed. The numerical methods were also employed to obtain the film cooling characteristics of various diffusion slot holes. The investigation on mixing loss model of film cooled blade was performed, and the mixing loss model based on the concept of “Reversible Mixing” was proposed. The film cooling mechanism of the rotor blade were performed, and the influence of rotational speed on the film cooling characteristics of rotating blade was explored. The component type and experimental data of the gas turbine cooling air system were expanded, which can accurately simulate the turbine blades with different cooling forms by the fluid network. Moreover, the stability and computation speed of the fluid network technology in the large-scale component system simulation were greatly improved.

3. Domestic cooperation direction

The project of "Numerical and Experimental Study on H2 Combustion" and "Optimization Investigation on Exhaust Hood of Steam Turbine" in the research of Shanghai electric Co. Ltd were successfully accepted. The numerical and experimental study on H2 combustion provides the numerical simulation guidelines and the chemical database for H2 burner design in Shanghai Co. Ltd. The documentation work proves the detail timeline and reviews in the project. The project fulfills the specification and thus successfully accepted.

The configurations of the exhaust collector, the diffuser and the last stage of blade profiles were optimized for the project of "Optimization Investigation on Exhaust Hood of Steam Turbine". The new designed exhaust hood and the single stage turbine were manufactured and compared with the original configurations by the experiments performed under design and off design conditions. The results show that the pressure recovery coefficients are increased, the total pressure loss coefficients are decreased and the performances for both exhaust hood and turbine are improved. The experimental data can be used to validate the 3D CFD code and accepted satisfaction from the project supporters.

Technology Transfer

Based on the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement" signed by Qingdao City People's government and the Institute of Engineering Thermal physics, Chinese Academy of Science, The CAS Qingdao Guosheng Gas Turbine Co., Ltd. was established in November, 2017 in Qingdao city. The registered capital is CNY 500 million. The company is engaged in research and development of industrial gas turbine and its industrialization.

There are 37 projects undertaken of the lab. in 2017, including one courtyard key deployment project of CAS, 1 major instrument development projects of CAS, 21 fund class projects, 1 item of the national key research projects, 1 purchase special item of CAS, and 10 lateral projects. The account funds of the laboratory was CNY 73.60 million in 2017.

Patents and Paper

1 Chinese invention patent and 3 software copyrights have been authorized. 18 research papers were published: 6 are indexed by SCI, and 9 are indexed by EI. Title: Performance of a gas cooled molten salt heat exchanger. Author: Qian Jin, Kong Qiaoling, Zhang Hongwu. IF: 3.043. An experimental system has been built to research the heat transfer characteristics of gas cooled molten salt heat exchangers. Based on the system, a prototype tube-and-shell gas cooled molten salt heat exchanger was experimentally investigated. A nitrate salt mixture (NaNO3-KNO3-NaNO2) was chosen as the hot fuid in the tube side. Helium and air were chosen as the gas fluids in the shell side, respectively. A modifed Wilson plot method was used to separate the heat coeffcients in both sides. Convective heat transfer data of molten salt in tube bundles are obtained within the range of Re from 4138 to 11191 and Pr from 9.8 to 18.9. It is compared with two empirical correlations: Gnielinskito Equation and Hausenon Equation. Comparison of the heat transfer characteristics between air and helium in the shell side is also discussed. A detailed thermal resistance analysis inside the heat exchanger is made and the way to improve its thermal performance is clarified.
